Last week, I had the privilege to sit down with WUWM-FM Milwaukee Public Radio education reporter Rachel Morello to discuss Milwaukee Succeeds and how we are collaborating to improve educational outcomes for our kids in Milwaukee.
I encourage you to listen to our conversation, Click here and then share some of my answers with your stakeholders, partners, teachers, students, and anyone who still believes that education in Milwaukee is still intractable and/or still contentious.
We covered a number of topics, including:
Who is in our boat, now that we are all rowing in the same direction?
Why did we focus on education in the first place?
How did we choose these indicators?
What’s so important about third grade reading?
What strategy is making the biggest difference?
Why such big proficiency gaps based on economic status and race?
What’s they key contributor for ninth graders completing high school?
Help explain these terms: FAFSA, CASEL, YoungStar, TRI, oh my!
I got a bit emotional talking about “our babies,” but I think that’s the beauty of radio (and our recent partnership with Ex Fabula storytelling) – let’s keep sharing authentic and emotional stories about how helping our children can strengthen our community!
I had a great time with Rachel, and appreciated sharing our latest Milestone Report and YOUR efforts to help Milwaukee Succeeds.
See you soon,
