It's National Read Across America Day!
March 2nd is National Read Across America Day, in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday! Today thousands of schools, libraries and
community centers around the country are bringing kids and teens together to celebrate reading, and Milwaukee is no exception! Connor Morris, who served as an AmeriCorps VISTA with us last year, is now a Milwaukee Public Schools teacher at Keefe Ave. He teaches 7th grade, and wanted to share some photos from Keefe today.
As a K-8 school, Keefe Ave. took advantage of their wide age range to celebrate Read Across America Day. In these photos, you can see Mr. Morris’ 7th grade students, along with Keefe’s 8th graders, paired up with a 2nd grade reading buddy to read through a Dr. Seuss book together.
These sweet photos make my heart happy. They show our beautiful students in their natural state; hungry to learn, eager to succeed and ready to lead. We talk a lot about gratitude for our partners that make up Milwaukee Succeeds, but I'd like to take a moment today to thank the young people in our city that inspire us to go to work every day. Their success is our success.
I hope you all get a chance to read a book with a young person today, or at least enjoy reading to yourself. As Dr. Seuss once said, "You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book."
